I’m Alain Alaily, a Swiss-Canadian photographer with Egyptian roots, based in Marbella, Spain.With more than twenty years in luxury hospitality and a background in reportage photography, I bring a unique perspective to visual storytelling—capturing not only how exceptional places look, but how they feel.After studying photography at Nottingham Trent University, I built my career as a Swiss-trained chef and hospitality professional. As co-owner of Venus Sophia Tearoom in Victoria, Canada, our work was featured in Condé Nast Traveller and The New York Times, and recognised as Victoria’s Best Afternoon Tea.Today, I collaborate with luxury hotels, restaurants, architects, real estate professionals and lifestyle brands to create timeless imagery guided by natural light, atmosphere and genuine human connection.

I photograph places the way they are remembered—not simply the way they look. Through natural light, thoughtful composition and genuine human connection, I create imagery that builds trust, evokes emotion and invites people to experience a destination.

An eye for architecture has always been part of how I experience the world. Drawn to both interiors and exteriors, I find inspiration in beautiful, sensuous spaces where design, light, texture, and proportion come together effortlessly.I am especially fascinated by the way light moves through a space, shaping atmosphere and revealing the subtle details that make a place feel warm, welcoming, and timeless.

To me, luxury real estate and luxury hospitality speak the same language. They share a common DNA: timeless architecture, thoughtful design, harmonious spaces, and an atmosphere that makes people feel instantly at home.My approach is to reveal the soul of a place in its most authentic form. With a keen eye for hospitality, architecture and natural light, I capture both interiors and exteriors in a way that celebrates their character, elegance and sense of place.

The most memorable places are rarely defined by architecture alone. They are remembered for how they make us feel.A warm welcome. A lingering conversation over coffee or Prosecco. Laughter shared around a table. A quiet afternoon beneath the shade of a chiringuito, savouring a beautifully grilled lobster and genuine hospitality.These are the moments I am drawn to photograph.My work celebrates hospitality as a human experience, revealing the atmosphere, care and authenticity that transform beautiful spaces into places people long to return to. I seek to capture not only how a place looks, but how it feels—the true soul of your hospitality.

Working as Chef de Cuisine under two-Michelin-starred chef Sergi Arola at W Verbier, Switzerland, shaped the way I see hospitality, creativity and storytelling.Those years refined my understanding of composition, atmosphere and the emotional power of exceptional experiences. The lessons I learned in that kitchen continue to guide my photography today, influencing how I use light, detail and perspective to create authentic visual stories for luxury hospitality brands.I remain deeply grateful for the trust, mentorship and inspiration that defined this chapter of my journey.

My years as Chef de Cuisine at Idéal 1850 within Four Seasons taught me one enduring truth: hospitality begins and ends with people.Thoughtful architecture, refined interiors and beautiful cuisine create the setting, but it is warmth, generosity and genuine human connection that give a place its soul.Whether behind the pass or behind the camera, I am drawn to the people who embody this spirit—the chef, the bartender, the receptionist, the housekeeper, the server. They transform beautiful spaces into places of comfort, belonging and lasting memories.These are the stories I seek to capture through my photography.

Puerto Banus: I had two hours to myself while my better half and daughter disappeared into El Corte Inglés.I expected to see a few supercars. What I didn’t expect was to find shapes seemingly made from dreams, drawing people in like children outside a pastry shop.That was the real story.I loved the everyday life unfolding around these spaceships on wheels: a lady enjoying her tapas on her balcony, a friendly worker passing by with a smile, friends playing football on the nearby beach. Everything felt connected, free, and beautifully ordinary.The cars became magnets for wonder. Parents followed the excitement of their children, becoming children themselves for a few moments. Phones and cameras came out—not just to photograph the cars, but to hold on to a feeling.

Ferrari’s lines were mesmerizing from every angle. The McLaren’s colour and curves felt almost liquid. And that bronze, roofless Lamborghini… timeless. For a moment, I was transported back to my own childhood.It made me wonder what it is within us that responds so deeply to beautiful design. Why do certain creations awaken our imagination and remind us that impossible things can become possible?Perhaps it’s personal. I’ve always loved creating, building, and figuring things out.
Seeing so many people, from so many different walks of life, drawn together by that same spark was the most beautiful part of the afternoon.Here are a few fragments of that wonder.
